The Chicco diaper pail is a bestseller on Amazon because you can use regular bin liners. Still there should be no smell. Since we have been using a normal rubbish bin up to now and the smell in the baby room with twins was unbearable, especially now that the babies are eating baby food, we finally bought one. Read our test and instructions!

Using it

Here you can see how to use the nappy bin:

It is important to make the diaper into a small package so that the diapers do not get stuck in the opening and falls down nicely.

Dispose Nappies

The insertion mechanism is connected to the garbage bag and sealed with a rubber lip. So any smell should stay inside. But since the whole thing is so well sealed, the smell when disposing the diapers is abnormal. That’s why I tend to do it before the bin is full and outside the apartment:

Insert Garbage Bag

As said, you can fill the Chicco diaper pail with normal 20-30 l garbage bags:

The garbage bag should enclose the blue frame, otherwise it will not seal

But it is a bit more expensive to buy, the diaper pails with a cassette system subsidize their price via the special garbage bags, similar to coffee pads or printer cartridges. Whereby these “twist and click” systems are even more odour-inhibiting, since each diaper is packed individually!

Conclusion

Here you can see our old garbage can (please have a look at our room tour) next to the new nappy bin from Chicco:

You might also notice that the Chicco diaper pail is pretty big and not exactly pretty. The height is an advantage, however, as you always have to bend down to operate the mechanism. Also, we have the old version… the new one looks nicer because the lid has to be rotated to open, meaning there’s no longer the ugly big button on the front and it’s available in more subtle colors:

Is there really no smell? Well we are satisfied… but as said you should be really careful when you change the garbage bags, that you do it quickly and seal the garbage bag right away. Because the smell is even stronger because the diaper pail is so welled sealed. Naturally, the “twist and click” systems, where each diaper is packed individually, have the edge here…

A “hack” would be to use a normal rubbish bin and always tighten the bin bag a little so that fewer odors escape – and take the bin bag out more often… this is undoubtedly the cheapest option!

Which system do you use? How is the smell? Do you already give baby food? Post in the comments!
