How about some ideas for your nursery? We will show you our baby room and the other rooms, since the babies are still sleeping in our bedroom at the moment. We have a large apartment (82 m2) and can therefore spread to several rooms. Our babies (2 boys) are both 3 months old at the moment.

Nursery

Originally we had the cribs in the children’s room. But we want the babies to sleep with us up to about 1 year old, because they feel our presence and that calms them down.

We have a huge changing table so we can change both twins at the same time.

Next to the changing table you can see a laundry basket and a garbage can for the diapers:

An open rubbish bin was not a good choice as there is always a bit of a stink 🐽 We need to change that ASAP…

By the window we have the baby scale and a cozy corner for feeding the babies.

Bedroom

As I said, the babies are still sleeping with us at the moment. They sense our presence and do not feel left alone.

Actually this is the image we also see via our security camera that we use when we are not in the room:

Here you can see the whole room.

Sometimes we feed the babies on the couch.

We had also attached the camera directly to the cot with cable ties. We could see if the babies were still breathing. However, we’re worried about the radiation when the camera is close to their heads, that’s why we moved the camera further away. (We also had a computer in the room, but removed it because of the radiation!)

The babies like to play under the play arch (from Ikea):

They see themselves in the mirror and look at the contrast books that we have set up.

We also have an electronic and a normal baby swing:

The non-electric is actually better because it’s lighter and we can take it (and our baby) with us everywhere we go using the carrying handles. For example in the dining room when we eat. (As I said, the babies want to be with us!)

We left the Stokke beds open on one side. So we can take our babies to us any time. And they don’t fall out of the bed when we should fall asleep with them.

In the bag are burp cloths, pacifiers, etc. (They also replace our nightstands as they are no longer right next to us!)

Here you can see the cuddly blankets and the mobile:

Kitchen

In the kitchen we prepare the baby bottles:

I have some regrets for not buying an automatic bottle maker (Baby Brezza or Tommee Tippee). Because getting up in the night, boiling water while still being sleepy and measuring powder correctly is tough. We could set up the machine in the bedroom. But since the babies are now sleeping almost through the night and they will soon start complementary feeding, it is becoming less and less worthwhile.

We use the new Philips Avent sterilizer (on the right in grey):

It’s bigger and better than the old version we also have (to the left in blue).

Before we sterilize, we wash the bottles. With twins we need plenty:

Bathroom

We bathe the babies in the bathroom:

Unfortunately the bathroom is at the other end of the apartment. I used to like washing babies’ bottoms in the washbasin before changing diapers. But in this apartment it’s too tedious, I’d have to carry the babies with dirty bare bottoms on their stomachs through the whole apartment. We are currently using wet water wipes for cleaning instead.

We have placed a special board over the bathtub so that we can lay the babies down (to undress or dry them).

Unfortunately we don’t have enough space to set up our other baby bath with supports. That would be easier on our backs. Now we have to kneel down to wash the babies.

Conclusion

That was our room tour of the baby room / nursery, i.e. our current room setup for small babies. Of course, once the babies start crawling and climbing around, we’ll have to come up with something more sophisticated. We will report about it in this blog. So stay tuned.

Did you – like us – set up the baby room before birth? How did you divide the rooms? Do you have a small or a large apartment? Feel free to post in the comments!
